City StreetScape Project
Project Area: Market Street from Third Street to Little League Boulevard, West Fourth Street from Market Street to Trinity Place, Trinity Place from West Fourth Street to Nichols Place, Nichols Place from Trinity to 3rd Avenue, Also, the parking lots at West Fourth Street and Hepburn and at Trinity Place and Nichols Place will be redone as part of this project.
Project Contractor: HRI, Inc. from Williamsport
Project Inspector: Larson Design Group, Inc., Williamsport
HRI began working on the portal entrance at West Fourth Street and Elmira Street. The portal on the NW corner of West Fourth Street and Elmira Street will be set the week of April 11. Streetscape work will resume during mid-April on the east side of Market Street from Willow Street to Fourth Street. Check back for more updates.
Summary of Completed Construction Activities
May - December 2004
The Williamsport Streetscape Project is sixty percent (60%) complete. Below is a status report on the streetscape project components.
Market Street - West Third Street to Little League Boulevard:
Status - Approximately 85% Complete
Streetscape construction on Market Street from West Third Street to Little League Boulevard is nearly complete, except for one block on the east side between Willow Street and Fourth Street. Streetscape work completed included replacing sidewalks, installing accessible curbs at intersections, and the use of brick pavers. Streetlights have been installed and illuminated; however, the streetlights in front of the Jersey Shore State Bank cannot be illuminated until the block between Willow Street and East Fourth Street is completed. New trees will be planted in the Spring and crushed red brick placed around these trees.
Parking Lot E (Fourth & Hepburn):
Status - 100% Complete.
Parking Lot E is finished. The parking lot was re-opened on Tuesday, October 26th. Improvements made to the parking lot include a resurfaced and paved lot with new meters, signage, and lighting. Sidewalks around Lot E were replaced on Hepburn Street and Fourth Street and landscaping completed.
Portal Entrance at West Fourth Street & Elmira Street:
Status - 0% Complete.
Construction of the portal entrance will begin in the Spring.
Historic District Streetlights - Elmira Street to Seventh Street:
Status - Approximately 80% Complete.
Historic district streetlights have been installed from Elmira Street to Campbell Street and illuminated. The original historic district streetlights from Campbell Street to Seventh Street will be changed over to the “new white light” during the winter months to match the new lighting pattern in the historic district.
West Fourth Street - Market to Elmira Street:
Status - Approximately 25% Complete.
Streetscape construction on West Fourth Street has been completed on four blocks – between Market Street & Pine Street on the north side and between Hepburn Street & Elmira Street on the south side. Streetscape work completed in these areas included the extension of the parking bay between Court Street and Pine Street on the north side, replacing sidewalks, installing accessible curbing at the intersections, and the use of brick pavers. Also, the intersection at West Fourth Street and Pine Street was completed.
Trinity & Nichols Place:
Status - Approximately 65% Complete.
The brick patching on Trinity Place was completed and the street was re-opened on November 10th. Also, the parking lot at the corner Trinity Place & Nichols Place was re-opened on November 10th. A new parking lot was constructed on the east side of the Peter Herdic Transportation Museum. New curbing and sidewalks along Trinity Place, Nichols Place, and the corner parking lot was completed. Curbing around the Trolley Turnaround area and brick crosswalks was completed. Historic streetlights have been installed and illuminated. In the Spring, the corner parking lot will be paved as well as the trolley turnaround area and Nichols Place.
Peter Herdic Transportation Museum:
Status - 0% Complete. The museum is a separate project from the Williamsport Streetscape Project; however, both projects will be coordinated together and are anticipated to be completed by June 2005.
Construction contracts for the renovation of the Peter Herdic Transportation Museum Project were awarded to Lobar, Inc, (General Contractor), Tra Electric, Inc. (Electrical Contractor), and R & J Ertel, Inc. (HVAC and Plumbing Contractor) and work will begin in December.
The Peter Herdic Transportation Museum/Williamsport Trolley Hub Project consist of renovations to the existing railroad freight station, development of a trolley turnaround area (including a gazebo), construction of two Victorian bus shelters, purchase of a railway passenger “parlor” car, historic bus stop signs, related site work and streetscape improvements.
